Day 5 : New York to Longueuil, Montreal


We left Amalia’s early to catch the Amtrak train to Montreal. The boarding process seemed a bit haphazard but once on, we were pleasantly surprised by the large seats and footrests – much nicer than you get on UK trains, even in first class.

The train was slow, but the scenery was nice so we didn’t mind. We stopped at the Canadian border for an hour and a half and so arrived in Montreal an hour late, where Denis and Manon (Louise’s uncle and aunt) were waiting for us. It is a national holiday in Montreal today (to celebrate St. Jean-Baptiste) and despite the heavy rain, there are lots of people out in town. It is also the first day of the Jazz festival and hopefully we'll get to see some of it in the next few days…
